JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title:      Middle School Assistant                                               FLSA Status:   Non-Exempt 

Reports to:   Principal                                                                     Terms of Employment:   10 Months

 

Position description: Provide support to the middle school in the instruction and supervision of students. Performs and combination of following duties to staff in the teaching-learning process for students. Must have experience in middle school math  to include algebra.

This position is funded through grant funds and is subject to annual evaluation based on student needs, with continued employment contingent upon funding availability.

Essential Job Functions: 

  • Discusses assigned duties with the Middle School Principal to coordinate instructional efforts in four areas: academic assistance, instructional preparation/support, monitoring student behavior, and report and record keeping.
  • Supervises groups of students in the classroom, cafeteria, playground and other areas as assigned.
  • Presents subject matter to students, utilizing a variety of methods and techniques as directed by the Principal.
  • Operates learning aids and/or technological equipment.
  • Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts.
  • Working knowledge of effective methods of dealing with children, of expected behavior of children, i.e. of basic adolescent growth and development.
  • Evidence of good written and spoken communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
  • Ability to record and store data accurately.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Have the ability to work independently.


 Minimum Training and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree preferrable
  • Relevant experience working with children
  • Prefer current valid CDL with P and S endorsements
